Escuela de Altamira was a concept that emerged from the imagination of the German artist Mathias Goeritz. His idea was supported by a web of artists, critics, poets and authorities from Santander, who created a network of personal friendship and work that ended with two meetings based on ‘new art’ taking place in Santillana del Mar in September 1949 and September 1950. This web, weaved together with letters, interviews, postcards, exhibitions, posters, articles, conversations and the publication of catalogues and books, left behind many works and documents that are now the subject of this exhibition.
