Fernando Millán (Villarrodrigo, Jaén, 1953) is an important figure for understanding the advent and development of artistic neo-avant-gardes in Spain, both for his aesthetic output and his importance as a theorist and promoter of experimental poetry in all its forms (textual poetry, object books, visual poetry, object poems, action poetry, video poetry, etc.). His career is defined by the continuous theory and practice, and practice and theory, correlation. In this regard, he developed a theoretical and critical vision—presented in articles, conferences and workshops—which is key to understanding the contributions made by the neo-avant-gardes.
Millán was involved in Problemática-63 together with Julio Campal and was a member of the group N. O. Between 1968 and 1976 he endeavoured to promote and disseminate experimental poetry in Spain, giving talks at conferences and organising activities and publishing projects. The translator of Tristán Tzara, Millán is co-author of the anthology La escritura en libertad (1975), the book of conversations Vanguardias y vanguardismos antes el siglo XXI (1998), and some of the most important Spanish visual poetry books: Textos y antitextos (1970), Mitogramas (1978) and La depresión en España (1993, and Ediciones La Bahía, 2012).
Archivo Lafuente’s Fernando Millán collection is comprised of more than 3,000 items including correspondence (Julio Campal, Rafael de Cózar, Francisco Pino, Grupo Noigandres, Ignacio Gómez de Liaño, Juan Eduardo Cirlot, Joan Brossa, Felipe Boso, Alain Arias-Misson, Gabriel Celaya, Juan Hidalgo, etc.), cards, posters, invitations, printed matter, artist books, magazines, catalogues, graphic work, audiovisual materials, original works, photographs and handwritten texts, among others.
